Stepping Outside Your Comfort Zone

By Belaluna

Hello gorgeous people! I wanted to talk a bit about some of what it takes to grow in our spiritual and magickal paths. Knowledge, learning, research, practice – these are things that those in the pagan or magickal communities understand are vital in order to continue to grow and evolve. We are all, in one form or fashion, eternal students as long as we are on these paths.

This, however, means sometimes doing things that are unfamiliar to us, and the unknown has a tendency to be scary and intimidating. It’s much easier to stick with what you know, but in order for us to grow and do our practice justice, we have to step outside our comfort zone. We need to be ready to not just learn and try something new, but more importantly we need to be ready to fail or to look silly.

Often trial and error are part of the learning process – and that can be a scary thought for some. As scary as it sounds, failure and humility can be used to our advantage as learning opportunities, and if we can take those moments, pull out lessons learned and then turn around and try again, ultimately we will be successful. And when we are, we will have learned more and often end up growing even further than if it had simply gone off perfectly from day one. Some of the most valuable lessons come out of our failures and our ability to rise past them.

So my message is this – don’t be afraid to try something new. Don’t be afraid of failure. Don’t be afraid to look silly. Understand that, although possible, these are opportunities for learning and growth.

We learn to walk by taking our first step. We stumble and fall, but we get up again and keep trying until one day we walk across the room perfectly and hear our parents cheer. It’s the same with our spirituality and magick. With each new endeavor we’ll most likely trip and fall, but then we ultimately succeed without stumbling or falling – and our deities, our ancestors, spirit, self – whichever you believe – they’ll be cheering too.
